Academy of Jewellery has been operating since 2001 and was a child hood dream. Exploring my father's workshop as a child inspired an interest in tools, fixing things and shape possibilities. Observing the link between my Triumph motor bike and the fittings and connections of smaller scale jewellery, I explored Volkswagen inspired jewellery at college along with filigree and other explorations. Art was a constant in our home and at school, paint, colour, sketches and pottery, all leading to a major in jewellery making at an Adelaide TAFE college. Soon after completion, I was invited to teach adults at Thebarton TAFE college, and then aspired to create my own design school. Some students have been with me since early days, others come and make what they have designed and move to other projects. Many students set up their own studios and continue to create, combining, leather, glass and ceramics with jewellery.
